A growing trend in the US has been the attention of news content on TikTok. In just two years, the proportion of adults in the country who get their news updates from TikTok approximately tripled, from 3% in 2020 to 10% in 2022. About a quarter of 18-29 year olds disclosed that the app is their source of regular news. This is contradictory to the other popular social media apps, where news consumption levels have reduced or remained stagnant.
This certainly signals that the rest of the world is likely to experience a similar trend with TikTok. The app’s free flowing user interface is proving to capture audiences of an incredibly diverse range of demographics, nationalities and backgrounds.
